Our History

desde 1951

The Graduate Program in Letters (Vernacular Letters) at UFRJ (Masters and Doctorate) was created in 1970 and covers three areas of concentration: Portuguese Language, Brazilian Literature and Portuguese and African Literature. The PPGLEV’s fundamental objectives are the creation, development and dissemination of research in Portuguese language and literatures (in Brazil, Europe and Africa), as well as the training and qualification of teachers and researchers. In the articulation between the results of academic production and the courses offered, PPGLEV seeks to extend its work to public and private institutions of teaching and research at undergraduate and graduate levels in different regions of the country, where professionals trained by its teaching staff work.
